The relevance of the topic under study is caused by the fact that improper and unbalanced nutrition increases the risk of many socially significant human diseases, affects the development and health of the population, and the socio-economic development of the region. The purpose of the article is to analyse the structure of food consumption by the population of the Sverdlovsk region. Methods: comparative analysis, statistical analysis and special methods of data visualisation. Results. The structure of food consumption in households in the Ural Federal District for 2021 is considered. Food consumption by the population of the Sverdlovsk region was compared with food consumption in other regions of the Ural Federal District. The consumption of the main food groups by the population in the Russian Federation and the Sverdlovsk region was analysed, as well as in comparison with the recommended norms for the period 2018–2021. The level of food consumption by the population of the region in urban and rural areas is estimated. The level of selfsufficiency of the Sverdlovsk region with the main types of agricultural products is calculated. The conclusion is made about the discrepancy between food consumption by the population of the Sverdlovsk region to the recommended standards, about the presence of common problems in the consumption of food by households in urban and rural areas, while revealing the fact that the urban population has a more rational diet compared to the rural population. It is noted that the Sverdlovsk region cannot fully meet the needs of the region in a number of basic livestock and crop products. Recommendations are formulated to achieve a rational structure of nutrition of the population of the Sverdlovsk region.
