Development of viticulture in Russia: regional aspect
Relevance. Viticulture plays a key role in the agro-industrial complex of the Russian Federation, representing a source of raw materials for winemaking and increasing investor interest in the southern regions of the country. Modern Russian viticulture is characterized by the desire to increase production efficiency through the introduction of innovative technologies, the use of modern varieties and the improvement of agrotechnical techniques. An important area of focus is government support for domestic producers, which stimulates the development of the industry, updates the material and technical base, and increases the competitiveness of Russian products in domestic and foreign markets. The development of this industry creates new jobs in these regions and makes it possible to better meet the needs of the population for high-quality wine. In addition, viticulture has become an important factor in the development of domestic tourism in Russia in recent years. Aim. The analysis of the state and development trends of one of the promising branches of the agro-industrial complex of the Russian Federation – viticulture and winemaking. Methods. The research is based on the study of the historical context of the industry, the processing of statistical information and the analysis of government support measures. Results. The main trend of the last decade was a steady increase in the area occupied by vineyards. For example, between 2019 and 2024, their size increased by 24%. At the same time, the leading positions in the production of grapes in Russia are occupied by the Southern and North Caucasian Federal Districts. In many ways, positive changes became possible thanks to government support, which stimulated business activity in this area. However, the progress of viticulture is hampered by the following circumstances: a long period of return on investment, significant investments in production, restrictions on the import of planting materials, shortage of domestic seedlings of popular varieties, as well as climate change.
