Impact of sociocultural factors on the formation of a higher education model: tradition and modernity
In the current reality, numerous signs indicate the transformation of the established educational land-scape at all levels, ranging from general to professional education. Regarding higher education – the focus of this study – the changes are driven by factors such as the global shift from the classical to the postmodern paradigm, the obsolescence of knowledge, the emergence of new educational technologies, and a growing imbalance be-tween hard, soft, and digital skills. Consequently, there is an increasingly urgent need to develop a new model for higher education; this need defines the study aim: to establish the foundations for a modern higher education model. This aim is pursued through a socio-philosophical approach. The study characterizes two university models – the classical model (focused on meaning-making) and the "bureaucratic corporation" model (viewing the university primarily as part of the economic system) – and outlines a path to move beyond the bureaucratic model, thereby identifying the basis for a new model of higher education.
