SOLIDARITY AS A SOURCE OF SOCIAL CAPITAL IN RELATIONSHIP NETWORKS
Relevance. Solidarity is important for understanding social capital. However, the attitude of researchers to it is not as definitive as the theory requires. Solidarity is often defined as one of the key elements or substantive characteristics of social capital. In this case, it acts as a resource capable of maintaining the well-being of people through an abundance of useful connections. Close-knit exchanges of solidarity actors ensure reciprocity, moral support, required assistance, and other «bonuses». Less commonly, solidarity is studied as a source/generator of social capital, around which many unresolved problems remain. And, above all, the mechanism of the influence of solidarity on the formation of social capital in networks of relations requires clarification. From this necessity follows the purpose of the study is to determine why and how exactly the solidarity generate social capital in networks of relations. Methodology. The study relies on the basics of social capital and the network approach theory. The main method is the socio-philosophical analysis. The accompanying method is the method of identifying determining factors (the method of causality).
The results of the study made it possible to reveal how solidarity influences the formation of social capital. It is revealed that solidarity, firstly, creates an opportunity for the emergence of social capital. Secondly, solidarity generates motives that contribute to the emergence of the social capital of the network community. Conclusions. The ability to generate social capital based on solidarity is opened up by embedding the actor in traditional social relations for the network community. Solidarity creates a motive for achieving results that presuppose a potentially capitalized symbolic income. Solidarity ensures a balance with the social environment, which in its turn creates the ground for the development of human potential. Finally, solidarity itself is a motivation for cooperation, mutual assistance, participation in social practices that replenish the baggage of the social capital of the network community.
